Captain Withers married the widow Morrison just before Christmas 1930. Despite the demands of a new wife, and shortly afterwards a young son, Andrew, Withers' advanced through the ranks and in 1940 Colonel George Withers lead a battalion of the Coldstream Guards to France, where he died, strafed by a German fighter plane, on the beach at Dunkirk while refusing to board an ecape boat until all his men were safe. Nathaniel Browne

Browne married Francesca a month after Andrew Saunders's memorial service in Scotland. They honeymooned in America where Browne sought out Robert W Chambers. After this meeting Browne decided to try his hand at writing non-supernatural fiction and much like Chambers before him he became a hugely successful, but critically reviled writer of light romances.

His first novel "Love At Sea" told the tale of an author meeting a beautiful woman on an ocean liner to India and was filmed in the mid 1950s with Alec Guinness in the main role.

Browne converted to Catholicism in 1938, having taken that long to convince Francesca to do the same.
