The investigators met Coombes again when they arrived in [[Carcosa]], which had apparently been brought to Earth by the writings of [[Alexander Roby]]. The apparent death of his former employer and the strange city itself appear to have rendered Coombes quite insane. The investigators met Coombes (now positively identified as The Tall Man) again when they arrived in Carcosa, which had apparently been brought to Earth by the writings of Alexander Roby. The apparent death of his former employer and the strange city itself appear to have rendered Coombes quite insane. As the invetigators made to leave Carcosa, Coombes attacked, provoking a knife fight with Andrew Saunders.
Coombes is assumed to be dead, having presumably been shot by Yolanda. In any case he is trapped in Carcosa, wherever that may now be.
